Description:

The quality of Imperial Topaz can be judged by its color, termination, clarity, and weight. This Brazilian Imperial Topaz specimen has a perfect termination, with a rich, honey-like hue, high clarity, and gem-like transparency, displaying an elegant luster.

The term 'Imperial Topaz' originally referred to the pink topaz mined in the Ural Mountains of Russia in the 19th century. Due to its exquisite crystals, it became a favorite of royalty, and the Tsar decreed that only the royal family could own mining rights, giving rise to the name 'Imperial Topaz.'

In the 19th century, the pink topaz from the Ural Mountains was given the title 'Imperial,' with exclusive mining rights for the royal family. Today, however, Imperial Topaz mostly refers to the orange to reddish topaz found in Ouro Preto, Brazil.

Ouro Preto (meaning 'Black Gold') is a town in Minas Gerais, formerly known as Vila Rica ('Rich Village'). It was one of the major areas during Brazil's gold rush in the 18th century.
